DISCOVER BELLA FREUD
Making an impact in the fashion industry with her coveted slogan sweaters, Bella Freud took inspiration from her iconic jumpers to create a fragrance line in 2014. Unique and eclectic, the brand blends aromas that don’t ‘typically’ go together – think black pepper, vetiver and moss. From the iconic 1970 perfume inspired by the hedonistic spirit of the 70’s to the brand’s bestselling Gingsberg is God paying homage to the poet Allen Ginsberg, Bella Freud fragrances instantly ferrying away your senses whenever they’re spritzed or lit.
MEET BELLA FREUD’S FOUNDER
Born in London in 1961 and the daughter of famous artist Lucien Freud, Bella Freud comes from a lineage of artists. Her great-grandfather is the world-renowned founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud. Her mother the writer and gardener Bernadine Coverley whisked her and her sister Esther to Morroco in the 70’s where Bella lived a bohemian lifestyle that has forever inspired her creativity. In 1990 she founded her eponymous fashion line and scooped up the Most Innovative Designer at the London Fashion Awards in 1991. Since then, she has continued to revolutionise the industry bringing her rock-n-roll edge to Jaeger London, Biba and Miss Selfridge. She has a legion of fans including Kate Moss who wore her Gingsberg is God slogan sweater everywhere when it was released.
COLAB WITH AZZI GLASSER
Wanting to explore and expand her eponymous brand into the fragrance category, Bella Freud sought out the help of renowned perfumer Azzi Glasser. With Azzi’s vast knowledge of scent creations based on memories, characters and emotions (she has created scents for characters in films including Captain Jack Sparrow and Bellatrix Lestrange), Bella immediately knew that this was the creativity she needed. Taking inspiration from the ideas behind her slogan sweaters, Azzi and Bella co-founded Bella Freud fragrances beginning with three iconic scents – Je t’aime Jane, Ginsberg is God and 1970.
