Melding leading scientific research with a staunch commitment to sustainable practices, Biossance is leading skin care into a new age: one that prioritises product efficacy without compromising the environment. From their vegan and cruelty-free status to the ethically and sustainably sourced squalane in every product, this line is setting out to change the beauty industry and your skin for the better.
Powered by bakuchiol - a plant-derived retinol alternative - the Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum is an age-defying essential: diminishing visible lines and wrinkles while encouraging elasticity and smoothing your skin for a velveteen finish.
Doing everything we adore about retinol and dropping everything we don’t (we’re talking facial flaking, reddened irritation and sun sensitivity), this creamy serum smooths the look of lines and wrinkles while stimulating collagen production for a visibly plump and firm complexion. At the heart of the formula, the plant-derived retinol alternative - bakuchiol - boosts your natural collagen, visibly smooths, reduces pigmentation and enhances the elasticity and firmness of your skin. This nourishing blend also calls upon 100% plant-derived squalane to deliver and retain essential moisture, niacinamide to restore the skin barrier and fight water loss while improving the tone of your skin, plus hyaluronic acid to grant a moisturising veil of lasting moisture.
Water/Aqua, Squalane, Niacinamide, Sodium Acrylates Copolymer, Bakuchiol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Peel Oil, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Yeast Extract, Soy Amino Acids, Lecithin, Hexylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Citric Acid, Linalool, Geraniol, Limonene.

Good ingredients but could cause breakouts
I don't know how to rate this serum as I have experienced both bad and good results - hence the standard 3 stars. When I first started using this I broke out heavily on my jawline and nose (where I occasionally get spots). This kept happening for a month or two, but I stuck with it as I convinced myself this was purging. Not sure if this was actually true, but I am glad I kept with it. Once the breakouts had stopped, my skin looked and felt great. I am not sure about reducing fine lines as I don't really have any, but I will be repurchasing for the other great ingredients (squalane and niacinamide) on top of bakuchiol. Oh and the packaging: I am about 2/3 through the bottle and am just starting to struggle to get it out with the pump. Overall, the serum feels nice on the skin and seems to brighten it a bit, but be weary of breakouts and irritation.

Love!
I’m on my second bottle and am in love. Took a while for the results to show, but after three weeks there was a noticeable difference in my skin. Love how quick this absorbs and how gentle it’s been on my skin (I have SUPER sensitive and acne prone skin).Knocked a star off because the pump can get a bit annoying towards the end.

Not for me...
Reading the reviews I had high hopes for this product as I was looking into incorporating anti-aging to my skincare routine. My skin broke out badly from using this product and I never experienced this type of reaction before (and as a skincare lover I tried tons of products...). I'm guessing this has to be the retinol that my skin does not tolerate. I will not repurchase this product.

The packaging!
The product itself is not bad, I didn't see much difference with the use, but it's not sticky and doesn't irritate my skin. It's more an emulsion than a serum, but I like the feeling and the smell. But the packaging! After 1 week of use I had to start opening the bottle to get the product because the pump didn't work anymore. A nightmare every time... for a 60 pounds product I'd expect a working packaging at least. Upset and disappointed I won't buy it again.

Disappointing
I had really high hopes for this product and tried really hard to like it but I just don’t. After about half a bottle I have yet to see any difference in my skin and for £61 I’m going to have to pass. I’ve since switched to The Ordinarys 0.5% retinol for £5 and have seen more of a difference in 2 weeks than this did in months. Definitely save your money and try The Ordinarys retinols, they even have a 0.2% if you’re scared to try an actual retinol.

Give it a try!
So lets start with the negative part - the bottle. When you get to the last quarter of the bottle, the pump does not easily bring up the remaining product. So I think that's something that could be improved! Good news - I have acne prone skin which is also dry and sensitive. This serum did not break me out or cause my skin any irritation. I love how hydrated and plump my skin feels when I use this. This is not an acne curing product, however it really does improve the texture of your skin. I use it every morning and definitely see a noticeable difference in my skin on the lazier days that I don't. I know it's pricey, but a little goes a long way and this is the first serum in many years where I have actually noticed the benefit.

Don't use this product
I had high hopes for this product as normal retinol dries and irritates my skin. Unfortunately, the effect that this product had is worse than using retinol. As I have sensitive skin, I used this product sparingly and left a day between each application. However, this did nothing to alleviate the side effects of excessively itchy and hot skin which started peeling within a few days. Add to this, the smell which is quite strong on application but worse when the product gets on your bed linen when it becomes reminiscent of crisps or chips. I am very disappointed and would not purchase again or recommend. Sadly it is a very expensive failure.

If you're scared of retinol, try this
As I approach my late twenties I've started to notice a few frown lines creeping up on my forehead... but I want to save 'The Big R' for when I've exhausted every other option. This does exactly what it says on the bottle and has visibly smoothed the look of my forehead, minimised the visibility of my pores and helped fade blemishes... just like retinol does. I've not experienced any peeling or flaking; simply plump and even-toned skin!

My skin loves it
I have such a hard time finding products that don't irritate or break me out but this does neither and I'm so so happy with it. From the first use I knew it was going to be a winner. It seriously plumps my skin and my skin has felt healthier over time. It's also SIGNIFICANTLY reduced my acne scarring. Honestly I used to have pockmarks and now my cheeks are pretty much smooth. I love how the squalane is cruelty free and I'm so happy to find a non-sticky bakuchiol product. As others have said, I wish it was fragrance free but the particular formulation doesn't irritate my skin at all even so.

Not good for drier, older skin
Had high hopes for this product from most of the reviews - and loved the brand ethics etc, but my skin flaked and peeled every day since using this and it's not great! Even using a gentle scrub afterwards didn't stop it happening. Was expensive and a waste of money as I cannot use it.
