Can see why it divides opinions

This is my first foray into Drunk Elephant. I don't really buy into their 'suspicious' ethos but have heard the reviews are good nonetheless. SPF is my one essential so I decided to try it. The first attempt was horrible. My skin was slimy and with a cast, it caught in my eyebrows. It looked a mess for a sheer product. I decided to re-read the packaging and noticed it said 90ml was 80 applications! No wonder I was having problems. I was applying my usual amount of product when in actuality I needed only half. Once I got to grips with that, the usage has been much better. Texturally it's lumpy and like porridge as it dispenses, but with a little time spent on application, I get a good result. I can't apply in my usual slap-dash manner, and in some ways makes me very conscious of application. After 10-12 minutes it begins to dry down, although for me it doesn't go fully matte. All in all, I like this product but it necessitates a number of 'application techniques' I am not used to.

not for me

I didn´t like it. I bought it 2 months ago and it was the first time seeing it physically. I thought it would be a good buy because it was awarded an Allure Beauty Award in 2015, but I was wrong. The first time I squeezed the tube, the product came out separated, very liquid with white patches. The smell was really weird and it does leave a white cast but only for a few minutes. I thought it would break me out, but it didn't and because it does deliver mineral SPF, I gave it 3 stars.

Not for me

Was looking for a good SPF for holiday and having read good reviews about Drunk Elephant products in general thought I'd give this a try. Should have read the reviews more thoroughly. Did it leave a white cast, hell yea! My skin tone, I would class as pale with a few freckles. It did not really dry down either, hence my foundation did not go on with a beauty blender very well at all, I had to gently blend in places with my finger. Not for me. Waste of money for me. Paula's Choice Resist was much better!

❤ it!

I have oily, acne-prone and slightly sensitive skin, I have used various sunscreens and none suited me. Wayne Goss loves this sunscreen (and Drunk elephant all together) and I trust his skincare reviews cos we've got similar skin. I decided to buy some DE products including Umbra Sheer. The very first time I used it (I use about 1\2 TSP of SPF. You need to apply a generous amount of SPF to get proper protection!), it went on completely clear without any white cast! There have been times when I applied it and made me look white and even pilled up, at that time I had issues with my skin barrier: it was stripped from using Beste n9 and Peke bar and other so-called gentle cleansers (clearly they were no good for me but now I have found one that suits my skin). When your barrier is stripped, your skin just gets unbalanced and your products, mineral sunscreen, and makeup don't go on properly. But now that problem is fixed, Umbra Sheer is a lovely moisturizing mineral sunscreen that leaves little to no cast and has a dewy sheer finish. I use C Firma serum and Umbra in the morning. if you're oily like me, you don't need a moisturizer with this otherwise your skin will get greasy. Probably the best mineral SPF I've used and will continue to purchase it! Take the mixed reviews with a pinch of salt but different things are gonna work for different people.

Just no.

I like the consistency, it's not heavy to me, spreads easily, it has a white cast but I'm as pale as ghost so besides collecting in my brows I did't mind it until I started to sweat. You can't sweat with this product, not even a little, which is impossible in the summer when you want to use it the most. Every tiny drop of sweat on your face turns into white drop staining everything from clothes to furniture. I had it everywhere. I'm going to use it up in the winter when I don't sweat so it's not going to waste, but it's a big no for me.

Really awful

This was a big disappointment. I’ve tried several other Drunk Elephant products and loved them all, so I was excited to try this, especially because my fave foundation (NARS sheer glow) doesn’t contain any SPF. Unfortunately, what the other reviewers are saying about the consistency and smell is spot on, and it leaves a horrible white cast. I won’t even be finishing the bottle :(

Holy grail SPF

I was surprised this had so many negative reviews - I absolutely love it! I’ve been using this for 6 months now. I have combination skin with an oily forehead but dry flaky patches on my cheeks & nose. I’ve found this SPF is great for my skin type - moisturising but not greasy, plus it doesn’t break me out. The texture is grainy as others have pointed out, but it's not a problem for me as it absorbs easily & the ingredients are amazing. This is a mineral sunscreen so it is likely to leave some form of white cast depending on how deep your skin tone is - however, I would never use a chemical sunscreen for a variety of reasons & on me there isn’t a white cast as I’m very fair. I look healthy and glowy after using this & most importantly it is effective as an SPF - I’ve never burnt whilst wearing it. I’ll definitely repurchase this over & over.

I like it!

Lightweight and doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy like a lot of other SPF's.

For the price, you'd expect a better experience matching the description

As other reviewers said, it doesn't go on smoothly. The experience is pretty far from the product promise. Especially considering the price. It says it doesn't leave a residue? It does. Also "zero white cast"? Yes, it has a white cast, and it's sold as "sheer." Would not recommend for darker skin, though I'm pretty pale myself, and I wouldn't recommend it for pale people either. Not sure who it would suit. This product makes me wonder if this actually does what it says, or if there's a mistake in how I'm using it. If we're all putting it on wrong, they need to improve the instructions. I found Paula's Choice lightweight mineral sunscreen to be truly sheer and easy to use.

Don’t get it

First of all, I am a huge fan of Drunk Elephant, so when I saw that they came out with sunscreen I was super happy, because I hoped their sunscreen must be so nice and won’t break me out. But I was wrong. It was really bad for my skin. Consistency is disgusting - oily, grainy, leaves skin white and the smell is strong. Also after a month of use, the consistency of it became even worse. So I decided product went bad, which is crazy, I only had it for one month.
