If youre living in London, chances are that youve passed the Earl of East stores and done a double take: picture a haven of plants, plush pillows and their all-famous home fragrances. Formed around four pillars Create, Curate, Collaborate and Community the lifestyle store-cum-studio is beloved for its in-store candle-pouring and workshops. What started in Hackney as a succinct edit of candles has since evolved into a line of home fragrance favourites that spans across bath salts, incense and aromatic mists.
With candles at the core of the brand since their beginnings as a weekly pop-up stall at Netil Market, it's safe to say that Earl of East's Japanese Bathing Ritual Soy Wax Candle is the ultimate introduction to the range (and a delight for anyone with a bougie obsession).
Beyond their effortlessly chic vessels and refined typography, the candles are made from an eco-soy blend of high-quality, raw materials from ethical suppliers; co-founder Niko Dafkos assures that their work does not contribute to deforestation and respects the rights of workers and indigenous people. Available in two heavenly scents, the only hard part is picking your favourite; taking its name from the Japanese word for hot spring, the Onsen scent profile has an uplifting medley of peppermint, eucalyptus and neroli that emulates the very same sense of serenity that makes the onsen a cultural tradition. The Shinrin Yoku literally forest bath in Japanese scent is an ode to the practice of disconnecting from our fast-paced world, being in nature and absorbing the peaceful atmosphere of the woods. It has an earthy profile of cedarwood, black pepper and oakmoss that conjures the image of a forest floor after the early morning rain abates.
These candles are made out of 100% eco-soy [non-GMO] wax & essential oils. All materials used are vegan, non-GMO, paraben-free, phthalate free & cruelty free. Glue used is solvent free & vegan.
For the latest information, it is recommended to review the ingredient list printed on the packaging of the product prior to usage or consumption.

Beautiful
Bought this as a gift and now I want one for myself! Smells stunning. Not too overpowering but really expensive.

Subtle smelling
Bought as part of a gift, along with the matching scent bath salts… smelled lovely though the candle was more subtle in fragrance. Suits me and the receiver though as some candles can smell too overpowering. Not sure how it burns as yet though. Still, lovely item!

Wouldn't burn to edges without help
Even though this is a small diameter candle, no matter how long I burn it, it doesn't burn to the edges without tenting with a piece of aluminium. I don't know if I got a bad batch or something. Also it's lightly scented. K like the smell but I wish the fragrance was stronger when the candle is lit.

Beautiful!
A lovely scent, it smells wonderful but is quite delicate. I wouldn’t say it fills the room (best used in a smaller space), but I would definitely repurchase. A soy wax candle at this price is great value for money, would love to see incense in this fragrance too.

a powerful scent that doesn't overpower
I use this candle when I take a bath, lighting it as I run the bath so the relaxing Onsen scent fills my bathroom. The candle lasts a very long time, so although these candles aren't cheap they're value for money once the longevity is taken into account.

Nice scent
I really love the scent. It does smell like a hot spring, as its name suggested. I would love it more if its scent is stronger. It is a bit weak in my room but I know it's a big room. I would definitely try other candles from the brand.

So Disappointed
Because, I read quite a few good reviews. But, I am personally so disappointed. There is no smell at all. I was hesitant, because of the low price point. But, I have now learnt that when you " buy cheap " you get cheap. I will stick to the higher priced brands that actually say and do what they are. This unfortunately is just a flickering candle in a brown pot. So disappointing.
