The Ordinary has firmly cemented itself as a leader in science-backed skin care. Taking the guesswork out of building a regime, it ditches unnecessary, filler ingredients for familiar, hard-working actives that deliver promising results. And next to bless your complexion is the Granactive Retinoid Serum 5% in Squalane (30ml), a high-strength serum softening the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
Starring retinoid active technology, the Granactive Retinoid Serum 5% in Squalane (30ml) is a water-free solution working to exfoliate and renew the look of skin.
Keen to improve the appearance of your skin with a retinoid but wary of the potential side effects like dryness and redness? This hardworking serum could be just what you need; achieving faster-acting results than traditional retinol but keeping the look of the skin barrier in check. Housed in a light-as-air formula that refreshes and restores, it improves the appearance of pigmentation, fine lines and fatigue... no wonder it's at the top of our wishlist!
Squalane, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Bisabolol, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil.

Apply a small amount to the face in the evening, after water serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected sun exposure and store in a cool, dry place.

Fabulous!
As always, The Ordinary products are fantastic. I used to use Retinoid emulsion and recently switched to the one in Squalane. It is amazing and I guess since my skin's so dry, it just fits in beautifully. My skin has changed so much for the better!

Won't order again
Thought I'd try this as I presumed it must be good as it was always out of stock when I tried to order before. However, I won't bother again as its much too oily. Only been using for a couple of weeks so not sure if it is having any effect.

Super serum
This is higher strength retinol and it's the only one that dries out my skin if I introduce it too quickly. When this happens the skin can look old dehydrated and fatigued, the opposite of what we want. So, always start off every other day, and although it's very fluid only use 2/3 drops. Even longer-term I struggle to use this daily. 5 times a week max. But, the results as with all the retinol here are wonderful, but you need to use it accordingly.

Great but...
This is a good product however just wish it wasn’t so oily and was a lotion rather than in squalene.

Best I've tried so far (and that's a lot)
I was prepared for skin-reactions due to the high percentage of retinol, but I've had none whatsoever. I have used a milder retinol some time ago (but not during the last three months), so maybe that's why. My opinion is that The Ordinary's granactive retinol is really the best. I used a milder one last spring and summer, and my husband one day looked at me and asked "what have you done with your face? Your skin looks marvellous!" - and you know after almost 30 years together one must really make big changes to get your not so much talkative partner to notice anything. So this higher percentage during my covid-quarantine I know has been a success for my skin. I really recommend you try it.

Not really a fan
This is too oily for my skin and for the humid weather I'm in.

You can't go wrong for the price
Well.. As a first introduction to Retinol, this was a perfect product. It did seem to work, and got me ready for the next step up in Retinol %. The price is amazing. My skin would feel incredible every morning after wearing this, and prevented any problem areas breaking out on my skin. My only issue was that Ordinary don't offer a stronger retinol once this has done it's job..

Granactive Retinoid 5% VS Retinol 0.5%
I used the Retinol 0.2% as my first retinol ever. After using this I bought the Granactive Retinoid 5%. No results... Then I switched back to the "real" Retinol and this time the 0.5% I got good results again. After looking up some reviews I concluded that granative retinoid doesn't have real evidence. The squalene is a nice moisturizing ingredient that really suprised me and my acne skin. Squalene is the only oil my skin tolorates.

Really good product
This is the only night time product I use. I really think it keeps the wrinkles at bay.

Oily
This is just... oily. I don't know why The Ordinary put most of their retinols/granactive retinoids in squaline. I get that it's probably to help with potential irritation? Maybe? But the feeling on the skin is awful. Having said that, I still use it. And to be fair, I put it on at night and don't wake up with greasy skin. My ideal would be to have all their retinol and granactive retinoids as an emulsion like the 2%. That would be great. I don't think I will be re-purchasing and will be looking for a high strength retinol alternative.
