The Ordinary has firmly cemented itself as a leader in science-backed skin care. Taking the guesswork out of building a regime, it ditches unnecessary, filler ingredients for familiar, hard-working actives that deliver promising results. And joining the brand's stellar line up is the Retinal 0.2% Emulsion (15ml), a high-strength retinoid that smooths and firms the look of skin.
With a high 0.2% concentration of retinal, the Retinal 0.2% Emulsion (15ml) achieves healthier-looking skin by delivering a more direct delivery of vitamin A than retinol.
Working to improve the appearance of pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles, this superior emulsion also helps to refine skin texture, leaving it soft and smooth. Gaining its colour from the high concentration of retinal (which is naturally yellow), this must-have offsets the common side effects of retinoids with avenanthramide (a key ingredient found in oats) to reduce the feeling of skin discomfort and dryness. In short? We can't see ourselves without this bathroom-shelf staple...

Great addition to skincare routine
Such a great price for a retinal product and really enjoying incorporating into my skincare routine. Still new to using so can't comment in long term use, but so far so impressed.

Consistency is key!
I've reviewed this before but I'm re-reviewing after almost a year of use, twice per week. It's a brilliant product, no frills and no filler, and it's made the most difference to my skin of any active product. I started seeing major results after about six months of use. The trick with any retinoid product is that it isn't an instant fix and it isn't a once in a while treatment, it takes a while to see proper results. My congestion has cleared, my skin texture has improved, I don't get breakouts and blackheads are increasingly rare. All in all it's a very effective product at a very good price point. Remember retinal is very yellow though, if you have white pillowcases or towels, don't put your face on them right after applying or it'll stain!

Great
I’m blown away by The Ordinary Retinal 0.2% Emulsion! It’s gentle yet powerful—my skin feels smoother and looks brighter after just a few uses. The texture is so luxe for the price, and I’m already hooked on this little glow booster!

Good afforadable retinol
I’m not a fan of the yellow tint of this but it works well. I use it when I run out of my favorite retinol, and/or on my chest

Good budget retinal
I just started to use it, I have used tretinoin 0.025 and 0.05 previously and just finished my Medik8 R-Retinoate Intense. So as I'm used to higher strength retinols my skin tolerates this one just fine. Of course the formula is much simpler, compared to the Medik8 one, but this is reflected it the much lower price point. So if you have used retinols in the past and want to up your game on a budget, I would say try this one, and as with any new retinol product start gradually and build tolerance, after all irritation = ageing and we don't want that.

Amazing retinal!
I've started using this, upgrading it from their Retinol range and I'm loving it! I've not had any irritations and feel the texture of my skin has already improved so much

Struggling
I can't seem to find a routine with this product. I've tried to build from once a week to twice but my skin isn't having it. Retinol treatments are usually fine for me but this one has made my skin feel sore and dry. Having a break then I'll give it one more try before I admit defeat. It gets points for the packaging, the texture and the price, just unfortunately it's not the one for my skin.

Only one for me
Despite its concentration level this gives me no issues on my sensitive skin. I’ve struggled with retinols before as they always made my skin raw. But no issues with this.
