If you've been dreaming of adding Then I Met You to your skin care rituals, chances are this is the formula that captured your attention. Earning glowing write-ups from the beauty buffs at Allure, Glamour and Refinery29, not to mention copious awards - you're looking at Caroline Hirons' Choice for 2020 Product of the Year - the Living Cleansing Balm melts away sunscreen, make up and excess sebum to reveal a perfectly refreshed, calm complexion. The supremely sensorial formula has hints of rosemary, persimmon and grapefruit to delight your senses as vitamin E and plant oils feed your face with antioxidants and fatty acids and free it from impurities. It was all so dull, then we met the Living Cleansing Balm...
A staple in the rituals - it transcends the passive act of routine - of beauty editors and skintellectuals alike, Then I Met You's Living Cleansing Balm effortlessly melts away make up, sunscreen and excess sebum while feeding your skin with antioxidants and fatty acids.
The ultimate first cleanse, this sorbet-soft balm is designed to be massaged into skin - pause to appreciate the sensorial notes of rosemary, persimmon and grapefruit - to easily melt away oil-based impurities. It's crafted from a luxurious blend of lightweight plant oils including sea buckthorn oil (adored for its abundance of fatty acids such as stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and omega 6); olive oil (a nourishing antioxidant that boasts anti-inflammatory properties and supports your skin barrier); finally, grapeseed oil (an antioxidant-rich emollient that nourishes as it gently lifts impurities - cue round of applause). It doesn't end with that holy trinity of oils though - it's also laced with persimmon extract to protect your skin from free radicals and promote a brighter tone, plus vitamin E to promote a healthy, youthful finish. We're so glad we met this formula...
Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (Olive), Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil (Grape), Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Peg-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Peg-8 Isostearate, Cera Microcristallina, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Oil, Ceresin, Synthetic Wax, Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil, Diospyros Kaki Fruit Extract (Persimmon), Aniba Rosaeodora Wood Oil (Rosewood), Citrus Paradisi Peel Oil (Grapefruit), Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil (Rosemary), Tocopheryl Acetate, 1,2-hexanediol, Bis-diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Ethylene/Propylene Copolymer, BHT, Limonene
As there are differences between US and European labelling requirements, you may notice a slight variation amongst ingredient listings on differing sites. Limonene, for example is a compound found in Grapefruit Oil, and the UK requests it to be listed out separately. Then I Met You can assure you that all products boast the same formulation, with the same sorbet soft texture that everyone loves!
For the latest information, it is recommended to review the ingredient list printed on the packaging of the product prior to usage or consumption.
For the first step of your double cleanse, use the spatula to scoop a dime-sized amount onto dry skin and gently massage in circular motions. Add a splash of warm water to emulsify and remove oil-based impurities. Rinse thoroughly before moving to step two, a water-based cleanse with the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel.
Transparency lies at the heart of our philosophy which is why we have partnered with tech-platform - Provenance - to cut through the industry "noise" and equip you with key facts that matter. A 'proof point' with a green tick means a third party has verified the accuracy of the statement whereas no green tick means that there isn't independent confirmation (yet!), but that the brand has still supplied substantiating evidence (which you can view yourself). Does it all!
I buy a lot of cleansing balms and use them at night to clean away the SPF50 sunscreen I wear, I don’t wear makeup so can not say what it is like at getting makeup off. I have been using this balm every night for a couple of weeks and I can say that it does a good job of cleansing my face it has a lovely texture and smells nice too. It rinses away nicely without leaving a residue. I am not a person who repeatedly buys any cleanser simply because there are so many other nice ones out there to buy and try. This does the job it’s made for.

Its ok
It does what it’s supposed to: didn’t hate it. The problem with hype is clearly expectations are high.

HG
I’ve been waiting for this to come back in stock for so long and finally managed to get my hands on it and I’m absolutely in love with it! Beautiful packaging (recyclable too!), lovey silky texture and smells very fresh. It leaves my skin super smooth without stripping moisture but also it’s strong enough to remove makeup. It’s the perfect product for the first cleanse. Price-wise it’s a little expensive but totally worth it as a little bit goes a long way!

All time fave cleansing balm!
This cleansing balm is insane! The hype is most certainly real here, this balm smells delicious - think fruity cocktail by the beach, it gets rid of everything on your face with zero irritation - a long time eyeliner fan like me needs a gentle balm, and it leaves the skin super soft. Honestly such a dream to use! Would definitely recommend!

Clearly overhyped
It smells citrusy, quite common. Nothing special. You can find other options way more affordable - the Heimish one for example.

Love this product
It lived up to the hype for me. Took every scrap of makeup off and left me with baby soft skin. Would definitely rebuy it!

Fab Product
There are many similar cleansing balms available so it’s not unique. I tried it after having tried 3 other similar top brands. Loved the smell and feel. Does the job. Pricey though.

It's nice but
It's a lovely cleanser, does the job, but I think it's not worth the hype. I feel like for that money and after all the reviews I was expecting something magical and after receiving it I was a bit disappointed. I Will not be repurchasing as my body shop camomile cleanser is just as lovely and half the price.

Wonderful
Love this cleanser, very soft and smooth, melts your make up off, smells great. I also bought this on the recommendation of Caroline Hirons and I’m glad I did. She always gives good advice! I use this every night, leaves my skin very soft.

A dream to use
Everything about this cleansing balm is divine. The smell is incredible, the texture is buttery and melts into the most gorgeous oil. The packaging is adorable and the founder is also a genuinely delightful human. I’ve found this brilliant for removing makeup and SPF. A gorgeous first cleanse - cheers me up at the end of the day. Will definitely repurchase (if it doesn’t keep selling out!).
